Well even as a doctor, you'll have to familiarize yourself with new medicines and their pharmaceutical principles.

You'll have to pick a drug for your patient based on personal experience, best results from the latest clinical trials, and the specific needs of the patient (EBM). You'll have to watch out for drug-drug interactions and contraindications like pregnancy. You'll get good with experience, practice and perhaps by practicing a lot of p-drug vignettes while in medical school.
