Default Moving to Santo Domingo

Hello everyone:
I am a general practitioner who graduated in Venezuela a few years ago. I then came to the US and have been doing research and a PhD in clinical health psychology. My husband just got offered a great position in Santo Domingo so we will be moving there soon. I will be studying for the USMLE so I can come back to do my residency in the States. I am looking for some contacts in the medical field in Santo Domingo, and also a study group for the USMLE.
Also, how are residencies in the DR, are they very competitive?
Thank you in advance for your help.
