Default USA students applying to Carib medschools

Hola everybody

I will be graduating highschool in june 08. I plan on doing medschool in the Caribs now.

Is it true that after two years in a Carib school you can go back to the USA?

Any information on the admissions requirements and the process would be a great help. : )

What if i want to live in a dorm there? What are the fees on average?

Plus which medschools in the Caribs teach in english and hav good reputation.

Muchas gracias

well that depend in which school you are going to....some of this school have the premed +med program...5 to 6 years long ,but some of this medschool let you go back to US for clinicals,in your case as a new grad .thats mean you will go back in your third year of med school,so you will end some place in Florida or NY area, doing clinical rotation for a couple years,is not that bad...or on the other hand in the state you have to get a B/S in any thing + med school which will take you 8 years ,besides the Mcat is so hard to begin. To study in RD is the most economic place in the caribian.let me know if you need more info.

Are the UNIBE clinicals after or before one takes the USMLE?

Actually the MCAT is not hard if the student has been serious in their premed studies.

"doing clinical rotation for a couple years"
So the clinicals last for two years right?

The reason i want to attend med school in the Carib's is because it takes only five years compared to eight years in the U.S.

it just like in the states .you have to study 2 years of basic sciences and 2 of clinicals.but you have to start taking you USMLE part I by the end of your second year of basic sciences,in order to qualify for clinical in the state
but some student prefer to finish meds schools before attend it the USmle,it all depends on you,but not in DR

Hey Victor,

So how is the school? Are they approved in the 50 states? Language of instructions in the school curriculum?

Many thanks for your info.

Well got my some info on UNIBE. As far as I know UNIBE is not recognized in all 50 states.

So if you are really bound on going to UNIBE, then make sure thats it's accepted in the state you want to practice.

Check out some other good schools in Caribbean too. They are a lot of good Caribbean schools which approved in all 50 states.

Kindly let me know if my info is not correct.

Hope that helps.

Have you ever considered studying overseas in exotic locations such as India and Florida??? I just learnt of a college called Kasturba Medical College International Center (KMCIC) through Google search, which offers you the option of completing a portion of your med studies in India (Manipal University) and the other portion of your education in the American University of Antigua (AUA) College of Medicine (Miami, Florida)... I'm weighing my options, but it sounds like a good option to me....

Default to morpheus;

[some of the IMG medical progran have clinical rotation in US ..they are talking for the 3 and 4 year of clinical.sciences porcion. After students successfully complete the Basic Sciences component they return to the United States to begin the clinical phase of their training and take the appropriate USMLE. During these next two years, students have the opportunity for additional patient contact under the supervision of our U.S. clinical faculty and gain familiarity with the various areas of specializations available once they graduate.
