It is quite disappointing that we are not able to edit even our own threads. I cannot understand the logic behind not providing the edit option. Lets put it in this way, if we have any informative thread which is required to be updated on regular basis then what we can do? Please do something about this issue or at least make this policy clear to us. Thanks.

A reason as to why the post edit time period is set to a few hours is stated here:

Basically we have a big issue with spammers joining the site and posting trash or spam messages and for that reason the time period in which a user could edit their post was set to a lower setting. If you feel like you need to update a thread with newer information, just PM myself or any of the other mods and we can update that thread for you. Additionally, you could just make an additional post in the same thread and we can then merge that into your existing post.

I'm the first to agree with you that it's not a perfect solution but it is a compromise that has worked for us in the past fairly well and kept the amount of real content on this site very high and the number of spam messages and other junk to a minimum.
