I have a question sort of off topic. If your buying a mountain bike, is it worth it to get one with a gas shock in the middle for a smoother ride, or is it irrelevant?

yes, its better for hardcore trail riding because it absorbs bumps better and allows for a smoother ride. However, if you tend to have to pedal uphill alot you'll have to expend more energy, and its therefore not a good idea (unless you have remote lockout). Hope this helps.
