Entrance test fee withdrawn
Wednesday, August 27, 2008
By Our Correspondent
PUNJAB Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has announced the withdrawal of examination fees of all students sitting in entry test of medical colleges saying the Punjab government will pay their examination fees.
He said the entry test for admission in medical colleges would be held on September 14 for which foolproof arrangements had been made and provincial secretaries would perform their duties as superintendents in 12 examination centers set up for entry test. Besides ten examination centers, he directed to establish two centers in Gujranwala and DG Khan for the facilitation of students.
He expressed these views while presiding over a high level meeting held to review arrangements for the entry test for admission in medical colleges of the province at University of Health Sciences during which detailed review of mechanism of entry test, its transparency and other matters were taken.
While addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said he had introduced entry test for the elimination of ?Booti Mafia?. Now full attention will be paid to transparency of general examinations, he added. He said the examination system of FSc would be made foolproof after the continuation of entry tests for further one or two years. He said ?Booti Mafia? would be completely eliminated from the province so that hardworking students could get their rights. He said a comprehensive strategy had been adopted for making entry test of September 14 error-free and the committee constituted for the transparency of entry test by him had done a commendable job in this regard.
He said Secretary level officers would be deputed in 12 examination centers set up in the province for ensuring transparency in entry tests while the candidates would not be allowed to take their mobile phones in examination centers. He said Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police and other senior officers would pay surprise visits to examination centers and a helicopter would also be used in this regard.
As some position-holders and other students, obtaining high marks in FSc examination, could not pay Rs 700 as examination fee, therefore, the Chief Minister announced withdrawal of this fee and said the Punjab government would provide this amount to University of Health Sciences as grant for examination expenditures.
Mian Shahbaz Sharif said effective measures should be taken for entry tests that students and their parents should feel a pleasant change. He also constituted a committee, headed by Additional Chief Secretary Punjab which besides making foolproof arrangements in examination centers, would take steps for the facility of students and their parents. The Chief Minister also directed to review the suggestion of bringing A-Level at par with FSc and measures for the facilitation of students of backward areas. The Chief Minister also directed to set up two entry test centers in Gujranwala and DG Khan.
Earlier, the Chief Minister was informed that all possible measures had been taken for transparency of entry tests. It was further informed that 2156 candidates would take admission in MBBS while 157 in BDS. He said that all matters, regarding elimination of cheating, identification of candidates and distribution of papers in examination centers as well as marking of papers, had been finalized while security arrangements had also been completed in examination centers. Later, the Chief Minister visited various sections set up for entry tests.September 9th, 2008, 12:56 AM #2
