ok, so a consultant/asst. proffesor at shifa recomended that along with my studies at shifa (ill be starting in december), i go to a gov run hospital such as one of rmc's, pims, or mayo in lahore to get some extra clinical experience which he himself (remeber, he teaches at shifa) said was a little bit lacking in private med schools (in comparison to gov ones). my question to current private med students, shiffis in particular, but all others are welcome to answer, is if such an arrangment would be possible given your current schedules (u know, along with going to school and back and study time, etc), esp for a 1st year student?
a penny for ur thoughts.

I'm an RMC student but in first year you dont have time for this kind of stuff but I guess by 3rd year you could go to other govt places and volunteer to help in the emergency, you can learn procedures and stuff but as a whole thats not really important exam/usmle wise anyway so hard to say. Its all about having good teachers, not totally about having patients you can play around with either, think its just an excuse on the part of the Shifa employee as I'm sure the doctors/teachers could be just as good there if they wanted

teachers are good there, its just that gov run hospitals have a greater variety of patients. one of my bio teachers was a KE graduate and he said that as far as the quality of medical education went, the advantage KE students had compared to those of other schools was that no other hospital in the country has patients like the ones at mayo in terms of the variety of conditions/ailments you come across. I realize it won't help with exams or the usmle but if im going to be going to med school in pak, i might as well take advantage of my location in getting the unique clinical experience pakistani doctors are known for. Shifa mostly caters to the elite (felahi aside) and im guessing patients there would have milder conditions. aga khan has the same problem according to some.
ur saying i wouldnt have time in first year, not even on weekends?

You would have time to do it if you really wanted to but it's really unnecessary for a 1st year student. If you want to go to government hospitals, it makes sense to start going in 3rd year which is when you start your clinical rotations at Shifa. For the first 2 years it's just basic sciences and very little if any patient interaction so if you really want to see patients in first year you might as well just start off with wandering into the hospital at Shifa.

Sorry, but the point of the title is to show the topic of the thread. If it wasn't for the renames, no one would have any clue what 90% of these threads are about without having to read each one.
Yeah, it's true. These 'creative' titles [while ever so witty] really don't help because a lot of people that may know something about the topic being discussed see the vague/silly title and don't even bother reading the thread. If you're expecting a serious response it's in your best interest to use a serious title.

For future reference try to keep that in mind. It'll help us out as well because that means less threads for us to rename.

Thanks.
