Can I apply to any Pakistan Med Schools?
So here is my situation:
Pakistani born and living in US.
Got decent grades in private high school (around 3.0-3.5 can't remember)
Just finishing my first semester of 3rd year in private university in US.
My grades in university, however, are lower than my HS grades (around 2.5ish).
I want to apply and attend some medical school in pakistan (My parents went to med school in pakistan).
Which schools should i look at for the easiest acceptance for my situation and does anyone take applications at this time of the year? Thanks!November 26th, 2009, 11:41 PM #2
Admissions from what I've heard are closed. Your University grades don't matter. They will look at only your High school grades, since Medicine in Pakistan is a Bachelors degree. If you have done you're SAT 2's you wont have to worry about Entry Tests for Private Medical colleges. They should be above 2000 though, including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
You can apply next year. Your best chances are a Private Medical college. Try the following medical Colleges:
Aga Khan University, Karachi
Lahore Medical and Dental College, Lahore
Sharif Medical and Dental College, Lahore
Foundation University Medical College, Islamabad
Shifa College of Medicine, Islamabad
Islamic International Medical College, Islamabad
Islamabad Medical and Dental College, Islamabad
Getting into Medicine in Pakistan is not an easy task no matter which Medical School you apply to. It was easier some time ago, when most colleges were just Provisionally recognised by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council. Now that they have gained full recognition, its become really difficult to get in.
You can also try Public Medical Colleges if you want. Around 30,000 people apply, and there are only 2700 seats. =s
The best bet is private medical colleges, gaining admission through SAT 2's.
Also you would have to get your US High school grades converted to Pakistani standards by IBCC. Check their website. They take out 20% of your grade to bring it to Pakistani level, and give you marks out of 1100.
Good Luck with everything.November 27th, 2009, 11:55 PM #3

Admissions are already closed for this year, but you can take SAT IIs and then apply next year. Make sure to check the requirements for every school that you're interested in as they are often different. Shifa, for example, no longer accepts SAT II scores and instead requires that all applicants take an entrance exam.MedGrunt signing out...
