Shifa vs. DIMC Dilemma
I am too confused; i have to make this decision quick, as my interview is soon. What do you guys think? Thing is, it's only an interview, so maybe I may not even make it. I have to pay DIMC fees BEFORE interview; so i am in a dilemma. Anyone got some advice?September 28th, 2010, 03:44 AM #2
^oh man, thats one crappy situation!! ...well your 1st step i guess should be is to contact both the admissions offices and explain your situation...they may offer some flexibility (i had a similar problem except it was acceptance from ziauddin instead dimc and they(shifa) said it wouldnt become a issue for me)...
considering seats at dimc as far as i know go empty every year and the sole motive of dimc is making money, even if you show up later willing to pay there is a good chance they'd accept you even then... but this involves a decent degree of risk and i suggest you contact someone either who studies and would have a good idea or someone in the administration of dimc and ask..
good luckSeptember 28th, 2010, 04:38 PM #3
Yea, I'd suggest to go to Shifa first and get through the interview... paying DIMC the fees is not that big of a deal...chances are you'll end up getting a seat regardless if you come late. You definitely shouldn't spoil that chance of getting into Shifa.

I am surprised at the suggestions given here but i guess thus probably because i dont knw a thing about dimc.My friend faced the same delimna last year, instead of submitting her fee in shifa, she chose to sit for foundations entrance test and was rejected(didnt come in foundations merit list),she bdw did get accepted in fmh and is currently studying there but point is unless you have a good medical college to fall back on(if shifa doesnt work out) or are 100% sure that dimc will still take you, than i personally dont think you should take such a big risk..well whatver you choose,my best wishes are with you.September 28th, 2010, 10:23 PM #5

^ wasaykhan713 is a student at dow international, im a local karachite who's applied to medical schools and has found out alot of stuff, so i have decent knowledge about the medschools here atleast... if we're reaching the same conclusion, chances are its the right one..
even last yr i heard from my bio teacher that only 84 students were admitted meaning 16 seats went empty, so chances are atleast some will go empty this year also... what u need to confirm from someone is what dimc's policies are for students entering midsemester..
keep in mind we're judging based on probability, this is Pakistan, policies can change quite often, no one can give you a solid confirmed answer as to what you should do in scenarios like this,u can never be 100% sure (even 200 ppl can show up trying for dimc this year leaving no seat for you but its unlikely).. these are just our opinions..

There were some students this year who were partially enrolled at DIMC...the ones who weren't quite finished with their SATs and the ones who didn't pay their fees. They were simply given a "serial" number instead of a role number.
So from what I know, if the applicant didn't pass their SATs with the required scores before the semester ended, then they would have to repeat the semester or leave the school... the same applies for the people who didn't pay.
You're situation would be similar for not paying the fees at the moment. So just submit you're documents to DIMC and get a seat booked temporarily...they did that last year...and if you plan to come to DIMC later on, then pay them when you get back.
