ppl do flunk out if they do not pass their subjects in the attempts given by the examining body. bds has 4 attempts, and (crct me if im wrong) mbbs has 5. to the best of my knowledge, this applies to punjab's med and dental government colleges

People do flunk out. As competition to get into medical schools each year rises, however, colleges get more and more competent students who are more capable of handling the rigorous curriculum. At least that's what Taimur and I have noticed at KE. We've asked a lot of our seniors about how many of their classmates dropped out or had to take Supplementary exams or were detained -- and we noticed that kids who are currently in their second year had fewer instances of dropping out (none, in fact, that we've heard of), taking supplementary exams, or being detained than kids who are in their fourth or fifth years (where only about 2-4 of the original 10-12 foreigners who applied remain). There could be tons of different reasons from teachers grading easier to changing examination patterns/questions, but we just happen to think that there's a strong chance that fewer instances of dropping out/failing might be strongly correlated to higher IBCC scores which are indications of stronger foundations in the pre-med. subjects.

and finally KE is bringin in MCQs so i guess thatll help in increasing the percentage of people who pass

and i was wondering if any of you could please help me a bit

Im currently in Chicago and i have one more year of highschool left and im planning on applying to a med school in islamabad..i want to go to a government owned one becouse for the private ones they make u take SAT subject tests or a entrance test..and i dont think i really want that mainly becouse i dont think i wud do very well on a test in physics..but i can take a SAT 1 i think i would do good..so can you plz tell me a good government med school in islamabad or around there..
and anyone who went from USA what grades did u have in highschool? would a average of 4 A's and 2 to 3 B's qualify..ive always gotten A's in biology, chemistry and english but im getting a B in physics and math.. all my english classes have been honors and now im taking AP biology, AP physicology and AP English..i also took AP UShistory but i dont think thats really going to helpme.. is all that good enough?
and if i have to take the SAT 1 what score should i get to make sure i get accepted?

Ive been in USA since 4th grade so my urdu skills are not very good..i can speak and understand urdu perfectly fine but my writing and reading skills in urdu arent that wonderful..would that be a problem for me?

Also whats the grading system there? do u have tests every week..do they count towards ur grade..is there final exams every year..basically what determines whether u pass or fail and go on to the next year or fail and leave college..i would absolutely HATEE to fail..so can u please let me know how it works..and is it really that hard?

im soory i know these are a lot of questions..its just that im super scared and i really dont want to go there and end up flunking or not getting accepted in the first place..i can study a lot thats not a problem but not 6 or 7 hours a day..i would die if i had to do that..

hey wutup....................
listen man the only government med college is isl in RMC (rawalpindi medical college) which is pretty good.............to get into a med college you need ur IBCC certificate and a foreign passport ( otherwise ull need to giv entry test) and to get a better ibcc score u shud have phys chem and bio in HS if not in AP tho APs in these subjects help alot, they wont look at psychology or literature etc...........govt colleges dont need SAT and the ibcc doesnt accept it.....

as for when u come here and hopefully inshallah ull get accepted dont worry abt failing cuz u tend to fail alot here,,,fail for no reason............its fun actually once u get the hang of it................just dont fail when everyone passes...............everyone in pak med school studies and still a good percentage of the class fails so no prob.........................

another question,

i want to apply to RMC next year.

will it be more difficult if a person has not taken AP bio/chem/physics? my school doesnt offer AP subjects. also i have taken quite a few bio classes. (i dual enrolled at a local community college) the class i took at the college will still show up on my high school transcript.. will the extra bio classes help my overall IBCC score or no? also do they not accept anatomy and phyisology subjects?

Thanks for you time man,

Does it matter private or gov PK med school? I know there is a difference in fee and entrance requirements, other then that does anyone prepare their students better for the annual Pakistani boards examinations.

Appreciate you reply.

From the FAQ:

24. What is the difference between government run and private run medical colleges?
This is a very broad question but to sum it up, government colleges usually offer much more patient contact/interaction but facilities of a lesser quality as compared to private medical colleges. They also provide very little direct teacher-student interaction (class sizes are usually 250 students/class). Government colleges are also much cheaper for local students and sometimes also cheaper than some private colleges for foreign students. Government colleges have a strong alumni base in Pakistan and abroad due to the number of years that they have been in operation.

Private colleges are generally more expensive and offer less patient interaction than government colleges (although many still do offer adequate amounts) but have nicer facilities, smaller class sizes (50-100/class) and more technology involved in teaching. Most private colleges are less than 20 years old and do not have a large alumni base in Pakistan or abroad.

The situation got so bad that the college gave us one month summer vaction two weeks earlier. So now am back home 4 one month.
