Hi, I live in Canada and I have applied to AKMU and I will be applying to other Pakistani Medical Colleges as well such as KEMU and AIMC. I will be giving SAT Subject Tests in Biology, Chemistry and Math on June 6. My question is that should I write Math Level 1 or Math Level 2? Is there a preference by the Medical Colleges?
Thank you. But do u think that this will affect my application by any chance. I mean to say that do you think that the applicants who wrote Math Level 2 will be given preference?
In the admission eligibility requirements it just says for 550 in Math or Physics. They don't specify Math 1 or 2. Go with Math 1, you should be good. Just have IBCC 60% + , SAT 2 , 550 in bio , chem , math and you should be good.
Ah, Canadian and USA students usually take their SAT 2 exams in May, June , sometimes October. I think some medical colleges still accept October SAT scores. I think Shifa accepts October SATs 2
Oh well that's good news. So if I mess up my SAT 2 next month, I still have the chance of redoing it in October. But right now my plan is that from among the private Medical Colleges I'll stick to AKMU only. Any suggestions for any other good private medical colleges in Pakistan?
AKMU requires both SAT 1 & SAT 2 I believe. Shifa is a good private school. Shifa wants 650/800 in Bio & Chem which is 100 more than the standard 550/800 which most Pakistani med school's require for USA / Canada students.
Yes I have given SAT 1 for AKMU. Tomorrow is my result.
I have a friend here in Canada who left Shifa after two years in MBBS and came back to Canada. That's why I am not so sure is Shifa is a good choice. She had a pretty bad experience.
She said that the campus and the faculty are not good at all and that the standard of education is quite low. Plus the people are not helpful. She had to stay in the hostel and she complained that the hostel condition is very sad. I haven't even seen Shifa myself so I can't really comment on how accurate these judgments are. But if someone leaves it after completing second year of MBBS then they must have some pretty genuine reasons.
Oh wow. I had no idea. I thought Shifa was a pretty good Private school .
I have been to Shifa in H sector in Islamabad its next to the old IBCC Islamabad Office. I might consider Ayub or King Edward now ..
I wouldn't recommend basing your decision entirely on what I say. She told me that in Shifa you pay a lot but what you get for that money is not worth it. Try talking to some Shifa students, maybe find someone on this website, and do some additional research. KE is a very good option. If I was in your place then definitely I would prefer KE over Shifa. KE has a reputation which I don't know if Shifa has been able to achieve as yet.
So I had a question, for government medical colleges you only send in one application and then the merit list comes out, Right?
For Government medical colleges don't they have a special place on their website for Foreign Student Applications? What I did last year was actually go to Pakistan and met with the principle / dean of many different Medical colleges and they all told me just have your IBCC and SAT 2 and have those documents before the deadline for admissions. Most schools close admissions on October 30. I was one day late last year
Ok basically my situation is kinda complicated. I live in Canada and I am completing my High School from here but I am not a Canadian Citizen. I only moved here 2 years ago so I have the permanent resident status. So I don't even know if I will considered a foreign student or a local student. I called several colleges such as KE and Nishtar but these people have no idea. For now, I am lost.
I got this message from King Edward. I told them I was from USA and I have IBCC and SAT 2
Assalam-u-alikum, Thanks for your interest in our university. Admissions for MBBS in all govt. of the Punjab Medical colleges are processed by UHS to facilitate applicant. It is centralized admission system and when an applicant will apply , his application will be considered in all government medical colleges where he/she wish. . So it is good for you to get more information from University of health sciences, Lahore. So visit www.uhs.edu.pk University of Health Sciences, Khayaban-e-Jamia Punjab,Lahore-54600, Pakistan Ph # 042-99231304-09 UAN # 111-33-33-66 Fax # 042-99230870 . or
If the candidate is not Pakistani. He may apply on foreign seats through economic affair division, Govt. of Pakistan, Islamabad, Pakistan. http://www.ead.gov.pk/ , ph. # of EAD are 051 9201786 9201868 9203815
Ohh.... i see. So I should contact UHS about whether I will be considered an international student or a local student. If I visit Pakistan during the summer break then might go visit them. Well thank you very much. This helps
aaa123 - You need a minimum of B grade. And, try your best for foreign seats, if you can't get in on a foreign seat then your chances for getting in on a local seat is slim because the competition is very tough. We lose a lot of marks on equivalence so it is hard for us to compete with the locals. Whether you can apply as a local or not I am not sure.
